Virtue New Tab extension

The extension does not appear when I open a new tab

After installing, you may need to close and reopen Chrome, or open a new window, for the new tab page to update. If another extension is also overriding the new tab page, only one can be active at a time. You can manage this in chrome://extensions.

I would like to suggest a virtue, quote, or affirmation

Suggestions are very welcome. The list of virtues has grown over twenty years of research and continues to evolve. Please send your suggestion via the contact page, ideally with a source if it is a quote.

I noticed a typo or inaccuracy

Can I use the extension on Firefox, Edge, or Safari?

The extension is currently published for Chrome. Edge users can install Chrome Web Store extensions directly. A Firefox version may be released in future. Safari is not currently planned.

How do I uninstall the extension?

Go to chrome://extensions in your browser, find Virtue New Tab in the list, and click Remove. Your new tab will return to its previous behaviour.

Does the extension cost anything?

No. The extension is free to install and use.

Encouragement Button extension

The button is not appearing in my toolbar

When you install a new extension, Chrome often hides it behind the "puzzle piece" icon in the top right of your browser. Click the puzzle piece, find "Encouragement Button" in the list, and click the pin icon next to it to keep it visible on your toolbar.

The voice is silent or too quiet

The extension uses your operating system's built-in text-to-speech engine. Ensure your computer's volume is turned up and not muted. If you still hear nothing, check your operating system settings to ensure a default text-to-speech voice is installed and active.

The visual card does not appear on certain pages

For security reasons, Chrome prevents extensions from running on specific sensitive pages. The visual card will not appear on the Chrome Web Store, chrome:// settings pages, or the default "New Tab" page. The voice will still play on these pages, but you will need to navigate to a regular website to see the visual card and confetti.

I cannot find a particular article

The site has grown over twenty years and contains over two thousand pages. The article collections at the bottom of every page are the easiest way to navigate by topic. If you are looking for something specific, the contact page is the best route.
